Search engines want to show the same content that the crawlers have identified on your website to a human visitor.

The way you can determine if you have been a victim of the algorithm penalty on your website is by analyzing the period when you lost traffic with the date when Google updated its algorithms.

You should follow Google Webmaster on YouTube to get tips about SEO.

Check MozCast or Algoroo often since they will show new changes that are not officially recognised by Google.

The two most popular algorithm updates are Panda which is an algorithm that focuses on content quality, and Penguin, which primary focus is on backlinks and anchor text distribution.

If you have to use low-quality links on your website, you are at risk of having your site penalized by Google.

  • You should not have links from websites that are unrelated to your niche since this can raise a red flag to Google. Let’s say, for example, you have an online surfing accessory store, is to make no sense to have links from a cooking blog.
  • Another red flag is spamming comments and forum profiles; Google hates spammers. If you are placing links to some forum posts just with the purpose of putting the link, you will get your site penalize.
